Job Description:
Responsibilities include diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to allow the nurse practitioner to extend their knowledge in the sphere of decision making required to establish a diagnosis and to plan the appropriate therapy. Works collaboratively with the neurologists to provide care to new or establishing patients, continuity care and advocacy for patients, serving as a liaison between physicians and patients. These roles, undertaken in cooperation with nursing, staff physicians and other department staff, may include triage, telephone communication and patient education. Reports clinically to the designated primary collaborating physician(s). Reports administratively to the Director and Operations Manager, Neurosciences. Demonstrates ability to work in a team environment. Demonstrates deep concern for the health and well-being of others. Demonstrates ability to deal with patients and their families in such a way as to instill confidence and ease of communication. Possession of the degree of professional training to qualify as a physician assistant/nurse practitioner, both professionally and legally, to perform all services indicated by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and licensure as described in the policy and procedure manual for utilization of physician assistants/nurse practitioners within the Geisinger System required. Completion of an approved graduate program required. Completion of an approved ACLS program preferred.
