Geisinger Medical Center in Danville , Pennsylvania , has an opening for a Pediatric Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant. This CVTS midlevel provider will join a growing pediatrics program and will perform, in collaboration with and/or supervision of the physician, diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to assure patient care is delivered in a caring and efficient manner throughout the Geisinger Health System in an effort to increase patient satisfaction and patient outcomes. She/he will assist in gathering the data necessary in implementing the therapeutic plan of the physician. Will function as a patient advocate in the medical care system as confidant, advisor, and liaison between patients, families and physicians.
Major Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following: in concert with supervising physician
· manages and assists pediatric CVTS patients, both inpatient and outpatient,
· provides Peri-Operative and postoperative education,
· counseling and assessment,
· computer skills with emphasis on electronic medical record charting; participation in the call schedule,
· exemplary judgment, interpersonal and communication skills,
· effectiveness and accuracy in the completion of responsibilities
· 1st or 2nd Assist Surgery (occasionally)

The successful Physician Assistant candidate will require completion of a CAAHEP-approved physician assistant program, NCCPA certification or eligibility through Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine licensure.
The successful Nurse Practitioner candidate will have a certificate of completion from an approved program for Nurse Practitioners and must be eligible for or certified by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. Licensed to care for patient population age group essential.
JOB DESCRIPTION:

Reports clinically and administratively to the Director, Pediatric Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Manages and assists Pediatric Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery patients, both inpatient and outpatient. Participates in peri-operative care. Provides patient education and counseling to patients/parents/guardians regarding the cardiac program, diagnostic procedures and surgeries. Completes pre-operative admission orders. Demonstrates exemplary judgment. Demonstrates interpersonal, communication and team-based skills. Demonstrates effectiveness and accuracy in the completion of responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner required. MSN Graduate of a state approved Nurse Practitioner program required, OR Completion of CAAHEP-approved program for physician assistants and NCCPA certification, or eligibility, through Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine licensure required. Certification in the state of Pennsylvania required. Minimum two years Pediatric Cardiology experience required. PICU/Pediatric Cardiac Care Unit experience preferred. BLS certified/PALS certified, or eligibility for certification, required. Computer skills required.
